I started going to hot yoga classes regularly near the end of last year and I have been LOVING it! I wasn’t sure how much I would enjoy it initially – the idea of profusely sweating in a hot room with a bunch of strangers didn’t exactly appeal to me right away. However, seeing as I was recovering from a chronic illness that had left my body very weak for the last few years, I didn’t want to jump into anything that would be too strenuous on my body.
Yoga sounded like the perfect way to ease myself back into working out.
I still can’t do any inversions or anything too crazy, but I do constantly surprise myself with what I CAN do. I’ve definitely regained some of the flexibility that I had lost and it’s been so good for my endurance. I thought that eventually I would get bored just doing hot yoga but the instructors are so good at coming up with a variety of interesting flows and poses, none of my classes have ever been the same. I do have a heavier work schedule now so I haven’t been able to go as often as I used to (I really wish I could be one of those people who can wake up at 5am), but I still make it a point to go at least twice a week.
Never being someone who regularly went to the gym, this was a big lifestyle change and commitment for me. When I started the classes I had maybe one workout outfit? I figured I’d never need more than one. I didn’t even have a proper sports bra or pair of workout leggings. Luckily, I never felt embarrassed for not having “trendy” yoga stuff at the studio. The more often I went though, the more I could see how essential it was to have proper gear. Also having cute gear just makes you looking forward to working out even more and sometimes you need all the motivation you can get.
As my family saw my commitment to yoga, they were super supportive and my sister even gifted me the cutest pair of leggings and a great set of yoga towels. As the weeks went by, I would buy myself a little something here and there. A new sports bra here, a workout tank there, a new pair of leggings. Now, I’ve got a nice little collection of yoga wear so I don’t have to worry about doing the laundry three times a week.
But enough about me, let’s talk about yoga workout essentials!
Here are some of my favorite finds from some of my favorite retailers. Again, I’ve only been doing this for a few months so I’m no yoga expert so these are just MY essential picks. I’ve tried to include mostly all affordable items with just a splurge-worthy item here and there.
