Geek Fashion Review: On the Byas x Star Wars Tank Tops

Between companies like Her Universe and We Love Fine, geek fashion for women has evolved much since the days when our options mostly consisted of unisex t-shirts. Now there are many fashionable and flattering options for geek girls of all shapes and sizes in a multitude of fandoms. Unfortunately, for our male counterparts, most geek men’s fashion has stayed within the regular crew cut t-shirt realm so I was beyond delighted when I saw a Pac Sun booth next to We Love Fine in what I designated the Star Wars retail area of San Diego Comic Con. I was drawn right away to their Star Wars x On the Byas collaboration collection with their fun and colorful mix of prints and patterns and how they incorporated various Star Wars characters and vehicles in a subtle way.

My boyfriend, Luke, received two of the tank tops from the collection and wears them both regularly. Since I don’t often cover men’s fashion on the blog, I asked if he could give me his male opinion on the tank tops and he happily obliged. The following is his honest review of the Millennium Falcon Floral Tank Top and the Darth Vader Floral Tank Top – both of which he is modeling in the accompanying photos of this post (doesn’t he make such a handsome model?).

“I’ve certainly received plenty of compliments on the tank tops. Probably the best thing about them is the subtle addition of the Star Wars characters and vehicles with the Hawaiian floral design. Many of my friends have had to take a moment before realizing what was on my shirt and then burst out with the “That is AMAZING!” laugh. The fit is also great. Being a tall and slender guy, I often find that getting the small sizes of tank tops are either too short for my torso or that the medium sizes are too large around my waist, these however (which are both smalls), fit great.

My small bit of criticism towards the shirts is the variation in pixel resolution for each design element. Clearly they are not all the same DPI, as some objects look very grainy or blurry, while others are very clear and crisp, and so the various elements really do not match up that well. Another minor note that a friend pointed out (yes, this is for the most hardcore Star Wars fans) is that the Millennium Falcon is indeed reversed. The cockpit should be on the right side.

In the big scheme of things, these are Hawaiian print Star Wars summer tank tops, and living in Southern California and always being surrounded by a bunch of fellow Star Wars nerds, it couldn’t be a cooler addition to my wardrobe.”

These are definitely girlfriend approved! To check out the rest of the Star Wars x On the Byas collection click HERE!
