Hey guys, Melissa here — Amanda’s sister and fellow geeky fashionista — in my first official post on the blog! You can read more about me here if you feel so inclined.
My boyfriend is not a fan of cosplaying, even though I convinced him to do a Matt Murdock and Elektra Natchios (from Netflix’s Daredevil) cosplay with me for Wonder Con earlier this year. It was the first couples costume I’ve ever done with someone, and I LOVED the way both of our looks turned out. With Halloween just a few weeks away, I’m hoping he’ll get into the dress-up spirit with me…or at least tolerate it.
If you and your boo (Halloween pun intended) also love to geek out together, here’s some great geeky couples costume ideas for you both to try out this year! Whether you go all-out with the details or throw something together from your closet at the last minute, these ideas can be super easy or very complex. You’re bound to find something that works for you! I’ve handpicked tons of products to help you perfectly put your looks together, so be sure to check out and shop the items listed under each costume idea!
20 Halloween Costume Ideas for Geeky Couples
Part One
1. Princess Leia and Han Solo (Star Wars)
You can’t go wrong with this classic Star Wars pairing! Dress in all white and don those iconic Leia buns. This hooded crop top from Elhoffer Design is perfect for re-wearing! Have him wear an off-white shirt with a black vest. The red Corellian bloodstripes on the pants are a nice detail for hardcore fans, and don’t forget the blaster guns!
2. Spider-Man and Mary Jane/Black Cat/Gwen Stacy (Marvel)
My boyfriend and I are HUGE Spider-Man fans, so this is a cosplay I can’t wait for us to try soon! For Mary Jane, throw on a red wig and a heart-shaped Spidey shirt with jeans. For Gwen Stacy, you can capture her look with a black turtleneck, purple skirt, green jacket, and her signature black headband. If you want to go less casual, try the anti-superheroine Black Cat’s sexy look with a white wig, black bodysuit, and mask. Feel free to add her furry arm and leg details, but those claws are optional. For Spidey, he can easily pick up a full body costume or go for a more low-key Peter Parker look with a Spider-Man t-shirt peeking out underneath — accessorize with glasses and a camera.
3. Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable (Kim Possible)
With the live-action Kim Possible movie coming out next year, get ahead of the game by making this your Halloween costume this year! So what’s the sitch on this cheerleader/super spy’s look? It’s super easy! Just grab some green cargo pants, a black turtleneck, black gloves, and throw on a red wig. For Ron, wear grey cargo pants instead and draw some freckles on your face. To accessorize, carry a Kimmunicator or Kim’s red hair dryer/grappling hook and have Rufus the naked mole rat ride along in your pocket! Now you’re ready to save the world, no big.
4. Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly (The Office)
Who doesn’t love an office romance? If you’re feeling lazy this Halloween, here’s a very quick and easy costume you and your partner can put together. For Pam: wear a simple grey skirt, button-down, and light pink cardigan. For Jim: copy his infamous three-hole punch costume by cutting out black circles and attaching them to a white button-down. All that’s left is to pull some pranks on the other party guests.
5. Andy Dwyer and April Ludgate as Burt Macklin and Janet Snakehole (Parks and Recreation)
For the couple that loves to role-play together, trying taking on Andy Dwyer and April Ludgate’s alter egos Burt Macklin and Janet Snakehole. For Janet: wear a little black dress, pearl necklace, black hat and veil, and carry a cigarette holder. Then for Burt: all you need is a navy windbreaker over a button-down shirt and striped tie. For the FBI logo, trying shaping the letters with yellow duct tape! Don’t forget some super cool shades to complete the look.
6. Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler (Jurassic Park)
Yes, Jurassic World and its sequel recently came out, but in case you’re not feeling Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard’s characters as much — try these classic looks from Dr. Grant and Dr. Sattler from the original Jurassic Park. For Ellie: wear a purple tank top, khaki shorts, and an oversized salmon shirt tied at your waist. For Alan: wear a denim shirt, khaki pants, and red bandana tied around the neck. You can also add Alan’s hat or carry a stuffed dinosaur around with you!
7. Star Lord and Gamora (Guardians of the Galaxy)
If you’re up for a challenge, try replicating this interstellar couple’s looks. For Gamora: black leather and green skin are a must. Try clip-in colored extensions or just go with an ombre wig for her hair. Accessorize with armbands, rings, and Gamora’s signature sword. For Star Lord: find a red leather jacket and steel blue t-shirt. Add orange headphones, a make-shift Sony Walkman, twin blasters, and even a crossbody satchel! Married with children? Make it a family cosplay by having your kids dress up as Baby Groot or Rocket the Raccoon! Now you’re all ready to save the galaxy together.
8. Lara Croft and Nathan Drake (Tomb Raider and Uncharted)
My boyfriend and I are so excited to start on the newly released Lara Croft video game: Shadow of the Tomb Raider. As fans of both the Tomb Raider and Uncharted series, I love the idea of this mashup couples cosplay! Lara’s blue tank and cargo pant outfit is fairly simple, but you’ll want to add bandages, blood, and dirt to get this look just right. Carry her red climbing axe, pistol, or bow and arrows (or choose all three!). For Drake: wear an off-white henley and cargo pants. Accessorize with a shoulder holster, bandolier, shemagh scarf, and your weapon of choice.
9. Harley Quinn and the Joker (DC)
If you’re feeling bad this Halloween, why not dress-up as this villainous DC couple? Whether you go for their classic comic book versions or Margot Robbie and Jared Leto’s Suicide Squad looks, don’t forget the Joker’s green hair and Harley’s signature mallet.
10. Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow (Game of Thrones)
Winter is coming…but this couple remains hot! With Game of Thrones’s final season on its way next year, Dany and Jon would make a perfect Halloween costume. Take your pick from any one of Dany’s stunning outfits. I’m personally in love with her flowy blue and gold Qarth dress. If you want something more low-key and wearable, check out Elhoffer Design’s gorgeous teal Queen of Dragons dress. Make sure to add a silvery-blonde wig and carry a little dragon figure with you! For Jon: you’ll need a tunic, lace-up vest, tunic skirt and, of course, a fur-trim cape to throw over it all. And if your hair’s not long enough, you’ll want to wear a wig to replicate Jon’s luscious locks.
XOXO, Melissa
