Can you believe that Halloween was exactly one week ago? I sure can’t! With all the Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations especially out in full force in every store, Halloween feels like a memory. Some may say that a week is too late for a Halloween recap but to them I say boo! (Get it, like a ghost?) Okay, so that was lame, but late or not, I wanted to share my Happy Halloween experience with you all along with some silly photos!
Hip Hop Ariel and Magician Crazy Cat Lady?
With Halloween being on a Monday this year, that meant that all the Halloween parties would be on Saturday. My boyfriend, Luke, and I got invited to a couple and instead of just choosing one to dedicate ourselves to for the night, decided that we would run all over LA to make three.
What is happening here?
First up, were our friends Cori and Michael whose party also doubled as their housewarming party. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any photos of the decor but they went all out to make a spooky outdoor party atmosphere. They played Luke’s Halloween Spotify playlist and had delicious baked treats for everyone to enjoy along with corn hole for people to play (I found out that I’m not very good lol).
The highlight for me was probably the fact that they had an actual photo booth (courtesy of a friend) set up for guests to take photos along with a table of silly props you could use in those photos. After three shots, you could email the photos to yourself and receive them instantly – so cool!
Also, just in case you were wondering what are our costumes…I was supposed to be Hipster Ariel but ended up looking more like Librarian Ariel. I didn’t wear my glasses for most of these photos because of the glare… I loved the dress I got from Hot Topic and the wig seriously made me consider dyeing my hair red and getting bangs. One of our friends actually asked me if I had gotten extensions so I’m glad the wig was pretty convincing (that or maybe it was just dark out)!
Luke was a “crazy cat lady” haha. He wore one of my very, very old should-probably-be-thrown-out wigs along with a goofy “Cat Crazy” shirt my dad had gotten me and carried around one of my stuffed animals.
Luke and I had some photo fun and even brought my kitty, Xander, in for a shot!
In case you’re wondering why I would bring my cat out for Halloween parties…well, first let me just tell you that Xander loves being the center of attention of both people and other animals alike. When I found out that our friends Kate and Skyler were having a “Cat-O-Ween” and inviting guests to bring their cats to the party, I immediately knew I HAD to bring Xander.
The Cat-O-Ween was our next and longest stop of the night. I had too much fun watching Xander interact with the two other cats and dog at the party. He was a little shy at first being in a new environment, but once we gave him a little catnip to loosen up and pulled out a cat toy, he was having a blast. You could tell he especially loved getting so much attention from other guests.
The party also had some of the most delicious food I’ve ever eaten…ever. That’s a bold statement but Kate made this mind-blowingly amazing apple pie that is worthy of that statement. If you me and my love of pies, that is high praise. There were also yummy “blood pies,” pumpkin pie, salted dark chocolate cookies, delicious chili, dirt pudding, and more. You rarely think you’re going to go to a Halloween party and get stuffed on incredible food but that’s exactly what happened. I ate until I was stuffed and then ate some more haha.
There was also a costume contest. I loved that they had “Best Cat Costume” as a category and gave out cat-related prizes. So great. I loved that they also were playing Luke’s Halloween Spotify playlist all night.
My friend Holli made the prettiest Strawberry Shortcake!
Our last stop was more of a drop in. I (and Xander) were pretty tired but I promised my old New York City roommate, Janice, who I hadn’t seen in over a year that I would stop by her place and say hi. Luke and I left Xander in the car so we knew we couldn’t be there for more than a few minutes.
Once we found Janice among the fog of the smoke machine, and chatted for a bit we went back to tend to my tired kitty and end our night of Halloween festivities.
Yay for funny hats!
As for what we did on actual Halloween night? We hung out at our friends John and Holli’s but kept it pretty low key. We drove out to a little front yard “cemetery” then stopped by the grocery store to pick up some items. We played a game of Bang with the seven of us which I ended up winning surprisingly (I barely was hanging on!). Finally, we watched It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (my first viewing!) while eating pumpkin pie and drinking apple cider – yum!! Not a bad night.
LOL! I was not quite ready for this shot XD
