Ole Henriksen Vox Box Unboxing + Review

    Ole Henriksen VoxBox Review

Today I am sharing my long overdue unboxing and review of the Ole Henriksen Influenster VoxBox!

I was super excited when I was found out that I’d be receiving this box as I’ve had my eye on some Ole Henriksen products for a while but have hesitated to purchase any due to not knowing if the products would be worth their high price tag. In my VoxBox, I received three deluxe samples to try out: the Truth Serum Collagen Booster, Sheer Transformation, and Power Bright. Are they worth purchasing? Read on to find out!

Review: Maybelline FIT Me (Matte + Poreless) Foundation

Today I’m reviewing Maybelline’s FIT Me! (Matte + Poreless) Foundation. This product was sent to me courtesy of Influenster for review.

Fit Me! Matte + Poreless from Maybelline New York goes beyond skin tone matching to fit the unique texture issues of normal to oily skin for the ultimate natural skin fit. While some foundations can exaggerate pores and oily skin, only Maybelline’s pore-minimizing foundation contains their genius blurring micro-powders that erase pores and absorb oil for a naturally matte and poreless-looking finish. Dermatologist and allergy tested. Does not clog pores. Oil-free.

It comes in the traditional twist-off top container and contains 1 ounce of product. There is no pump which makes it difficult to control how much comes out so it can get a bit messy. However, I honestly don’t mind the lack of pump in drugstore foundations if it lowers the overall price. Speaking of which, it’s super affordable retailing for $7.99 at Ulta and $6.99 at Target.
The line contains 24 shades so it has a pretty good color selection. I usually have very pale skin, but had gotten a slight tan at the time of choosing my shade and decided to select something a little darker than my usual “Ivory” range especially since my current foundations were all then a bit too light for me. However, due to my health, I’ve been spending almost all my time indoors so that little tan I had is no more and I’m back to my pale self. As a result, my chosen shade, True Beige 222, is a bit dark for me (even if the top photo shows it as pretty light – that’s just very bright lighting and high exposure – sorry!).

Diving into the main part of the review, let me just state that I have combination skin – my cheeks, forehead, and temples can get very dry while my nose, chin, and mouth area can get really oily. Also at the time of my review, I was experiencing a few breakouts already on my chin. Even when my skin is not ideal, I always prefer a natural-looking foundation that feels light – I’m not looking for something full coverage or that feels too heavy.

Before applying the foundation, I moisturized my whole face and neck and used my Urban Decay Pore Perfecting Complexion Primer Potion on the right side of my face (left in the photos). I didn’t notice any huge differences between it and the left side after application but after 8 hours the side with primer did look a bit smoother while the other side seemed to have a rougher texture and had oxidized more.

It is recommended that you blend the foundation with your fingers, but since I just wanted sheer to light coverage (to make the noticeably too dark shade less noticeable when compared with the rest of my body), I used my Beauty Blender, making sure to blend it down my neck. It was very lightweight feeling, easily blendable, and evened out my skintone nicely. Also, it is fragrance-free, no chemical smells here. You do need to use a decent amount of product for your whole face, but since it is matte I would be careful building it up with too much as it can make it look a bit cakey and feel heavy. Using a brush, you could probably get it to a medium coverage, but I don’t think you could get a full coverage look.

I read several reviews where people mentioned poor wear time. Maybe they had dry skin because I wore this for over 8 hours in very hot LA weather and it held up nicely. Perhaps it helped that I just applied a light layer, but I didn’t notice any splotchiness or oiliness. I did notice that by the end of the day, it had oxidized around the corners of my nose and on some of the drier patches on my cheeks and chin. I definitely would not recommend this to someone who had all over dry skin. If I had just oily skin and not combo, I feel like this would’ve been perfect since it does seem to control oil very well even on the hottest days.

Overall, I liked this foundation well enough. I think I still prefer the Dewy + Smooth version as I just prefer a dewy finish over matte, but it’s quite good for the price especially if you have dry skin.

Below is me wearing it under makeup.

    Matte finish
    Easily blendable
    Good for oily skin
    No fragrance
    No breakouts
    Not full coverage
    Not buildable
    Cakes up around the nose
    Not good for dry skin

    Influenster VS Sport VoxBox Review

If you are familiar with my blog, you will be familiar with Influenster and their awesome “VoxBoxes.” For those of you who are new, Influenster is this awesome site where you can complete surveys and tasks and submit your various social networks to determine how influential you are – the more influence you have, the more likely you’ll qualify to receive VoxBoxes which consist of free sample size or full sized products for you to test and review. I’ve received some AMAZING things from them so if you aren’t already, SIGN UP!
When I saw this box in front of my apartment door, I literally squealed. I was so shocked and happy. Shocked because I remember taking the survey for it and being told I didn’t qualify (?) which I was super bummed about. Lo, and behold there it was though!
The outer packaging wasn’t pink as you might guess but instead a nice sleek black and white. Inside, however, contained the signature pink striped box we are so used to seeing. Among the meticulously packaged tissue paper were a bunch of 25% off coupons for any one VS Sport item (I’ve already given some to friends) and a booklet showing their new line of sports bras. I’ve got to say, these sport bras look amazing. My former main sports bra is one I bought years ago, but it wasn’t anything special. It wasn’t the most comfortable bra, and it pretty much just “strapped em down” while not giving much support.
What I received in this box wasn’t just an awesome new sports bra, but they also included some workout pants for a complete outfit. I have been in dire need of new workout clothes since I’ve gained some weight over the last year so I couldn’t have been more thrilled.

I received the Incredible Victoria’s Secret Sport Bra and incredible it was! I’ve never really invested in a nice quality sports bra so this was definitely leaps and bounds better than any other sports bra I’ve ever owned or tried. Here are some of it’s features:
    Concealed wire for cushioned support
Padded straps and bonded, seamless technology that eliminates irritation
Super-soft elastic band for comfort and movement
    Cushioned, adjustable back closure
Oh, where do I start? There’s so much I loved about this bra.
Okay, first off, it’s SUPER comfortable! The material is very light and breathable, it almost feels like you’re wearing nothing! I would totally wear this to just lounge around my apartment. It also lets air in and helps decrease sweating and keep you dry with it’s wicking liner which is awesome during an intense workout.
Second, the support is fantastic! I didn’t feel like my chest was being strapped down at all! Instead, it just keeps everything in place while you exercise. I think this would be perfect for a high-intensity cardio workouts and things like running or boxing.
Third, the fit was amazing! I have a hard time finding bras that fit me perfectly but this seemed like it was custom made for me! I’ve also heard they’re great for both smaller and larger chested women as well!
That all being said, retailing at $54, this bra is an investment. Do I think it’s worth it? YES. The quality is incredible and it will definitely last you a long time. If you are someone who works out a lot or even just looking for a good, comfortable, supportive bra, I HIGHLY recommend it.
I also received the Knockout by Victoria’s Secret Sport Crop pants. They are a solid pair of workout pants that would be great for yoga or studio classes, but nothing too out of the ordinary. The description says it’s made of a “nylon performance fabric with four-way stretch that creates a second-skin fit.” The fit was good and I liked how the reinforced band sucked in my tummy making it look nice and flat haha. The day I took these photos was extremely hot outside (over 100 degrees) and the Body Wick fabric helped me stay cool and dry in the heat. This retails for $60 in stores.
Finally, here are some extra photos of me in these two pieces “in action” at the park. I wanted to make sure before I wrote this review that I got a good workout in them! I’ve been a bit out of the gym scene since I’ve moved to LA, but my awesome new workout gear definitely motivates me to exercise more!

    Influenster Surfs Up VoxBox Unboxing

Wow, I can’t believe I’ve already received another VoxBox from Influenster! It seems like just last month that I received my amazing Mary Kay box!

This box is titled the “Surfs Up” VoxBox so I would assume it’s filled with items perfect summer items for a day at the beach. The bright orange box is much smaller than my Mary Kay VoxBox, but it doesn’t make me any less excited to see what’s inside so let’s get to it!
    Inside My VoxBox

    Jamba Juice Smoothie Kits ($2.99-3.49)
Inside is a coupon for a FREE all natural smoothie kit which I think is pretty awesome. I love smoothies and I love making them with my Nutri-bullet. And what’s better on a hot summer day than a nice refreshing smoothie? All you have to do is add juice – super easy! And it’s loaded with fruits and yogurt, is fat-free, gluten-free and includes a healthy antioxidant boost, one full serving of fruit and 100% of your daily value of Vitamin C. Wow – healthy and yummy! Sign me up!
Hawaiian Topic Silk Hydration After Sun (2oz/$2.99, 8oz/$8.99)
This says it’s the first and only after sun product that “combines ribbons of gel and lotion to leave your skin feeling luxurious and refreshed.” It features 24 hours of moisturization, is lightweight feeling, smells like coconut papaya, and refreshes sun-tired skin with soothing aloe gel. Well, I cant vouch for the 24 hour thing yet, but it definitely smells great, is very lightweight feeling and moisturing. Also I love the bottle and it’s size – perfect for travel or throwing in your beach bag.
    First Aid Shot Therapy ($2.99)
Or “FAST” is an FDA compliant liquid pain relief shot that can be used for headaches/migraines, sore muscles, back pain, and hangovers. So it’s like those energy shot drinks, but for pain relief which I think is pretty nifty. I am constantly plagued with headaches and sore muscles and the occasional hangover so I really hope this works! It is also Berry flavored but I can’t imagine it is all that tasty. The packaging is cute.

    SinfulColors Professional Nail Polish ($1.99)
Ooh nail polish, always a win in my book. They say the formula is formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP free and is never animal tested. For being called “Sinful” Colors that is all very unsinful-like. Haha. I received the color “Song of Summer” which is a muted mint color which is right up my alley. Super affordable, dries quickly, and only took two coats. After a couple days, it’s only slightly chipped on one finger which is amazing considering my nails always chip!

COVERGIRL Bombshell Curvaceous by LashBlast Mascara ($9.49-11.99)
Finally, the product I was most excited about! This is dual-wand mascara that features the two formula “revolutionary Bombshell Boost System.” The Step One side is a curved brush that acts as a primer to thicken, volumize, and curls lashes. The Step Two side is a topcoat that “seals the look for bold, noticeable lashes.” To really get the desired bombshell effect you have to use the two wands together, Step One first then Step Two. It claims to act as a waterproof mascara with long lasting power. We shall see – can’t wait to try this out!

Thanks again to Influenster for providing me with all of these products to try and review!

    Mary Kay Influenster VoxBox Unboxing

I received yet another Influenster VoxBox and I couldn’t be happier! I think I’m more excited about receiving these in the mail than the actual beauty boxes I pay money to subscribe to!

If you don’t know what Influenster is, it’s a FREE program where once you sign up, you can take surveys and earn badges that can qualify you to receive various FREE VoxBoxes full of sample-sized, and very often full-sized products, to try and review.

This time the box is all about Mary Kay! Honestly, I do not own any Mary Kay products and I think the only person who I can remember – I think – was my grandmother. So when I think of Mary Kay, I think of it as makeup more for my mom or her mom – very mature. I don’t think of it as young, fresh, and trendy or very appealing to girls my age. I’m hoping this box can prove me wrong!
First off, this box is already the cutest box I’ve ever received from Influenster. I was excited about the Valentine’s Day J’adore VoxBox because it was pink – this one has an adorable design and roses all over it! I’m already won over. Once you open it open it, the pink and cutest continues as the box greets you with “hello, gorgeous! hola, bella!” I love it.

Within the pink tissue paper is a Mary Kay catalog and two cards. The introduction card outlines the products within the box and the other informs you about a survey you can take for a chance to win a $500 Visa Gift Card.

    Inside My VoxBox
Mary Kay Lash Love Mascara in I <3 Black ($15)
This mascara states that it “defines, defends and delivers four times the volume” – four times the volume compared to what? Seems like a random number to choose – also what is it defending my lashes from? The elements of nature? Sorry I have so many questions haha I really am excited to receive and try this – I love getting new mascaras, especially full sized ones! This mascara has a nice long skinny wand with short spiky bristles, and bonus no funky smell!
Mary Kay Cream Eye Color in Apricot Twist ($14)
This states that it’s a “soft, creamy, long-wearing formula.” Yes, it is very soft and very creamy. The long-wearing part is still to be determined as I have not tried it yet, but I do very much love this color. It’s a beautiful warm gold with a hint of shimmer. Lovely on all skin tones. Perfect for summer.

Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color in Shy Blush ($12)
This blush states its “stay-true color defines cheekbones.” Gotta be careful with this packaging as the blush tries to fall right out! I really like this nice everyday pink color. There’s a bit of a gold sheen to it that I actually really like as it warms up the face a bit so I think it’s perfect for summer.
Mary Kay Translucent Loose Powder ($16)
I actually don’t own any translucent powder although I’d been meaning to so I am very excited to receive this! As the description says, I’m hoping it will control “unwanted shine all day” – so important on those hot LA days!

Mary Kay Gel Eyeliner with Expandable Brush Applicator in Jet Black ($18)
Love the little brush it comes with! I’m a big fan of gel eyeliner so very excited to see this especially in such a HUGE pot! This is bigger than anything I’ve ever paid for! I also love that they gave you a nice basic jet black color instead of some funky color. Here’s hoping that it is indeed a “versatile eyeliner with intense color payoff.”

Mary Kay Gel Bronzing Powder ($18)
Very pleasantly surprised with the size of this product – once again it’s huge! The color is very natural-looking, not orange-y at all and I can certainly see it giving you that “sun-kissed glow” it describes. The texture is also very nice and smooth.
Mary Kay NouriShine Plus Lip Gloss in Mango Tango ($14)
This little gloss comes in a bold fiery coral color perfect for summer. The card says it comes in “rich, intense, long-wearing shades.” There’s definitely some intense shimmer going on here.

Mary Kay Cream Eye Color/Concealer Brush ($10) + Powder Brush
Finally, there are two brushes included although only one is listed on the card. The concealer blush is nice and soft and I can definitely see myself using it for applying cream eye colors as well. The powder brush is a nice addition that I will use with the translucent powder although it’s not exactly the softest brush. The sleek design of the brushes are nice though with a nice matte handle.
