    Valentine’s Weekend in Yosemite ♥

For our first Valentine’s Day together, my boyfriend, Luke, planned the most amazing weekend with our good friends Cori and Michael in Yosemite National Park! I had never been before and was totally blown away by the incredible beauty all around us. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. We all took lots of photos, but even the best pictures can’t beat experiencing it in person.

We made the approximate 6 hour drive up north and arrived in Curry Village late Friday night where Luke had reserved us an awesome heated tent. I believe this is called “glamping” as we weren’t roughing it in a traditional sense as our “tent” did have an electrical heater, beds, and towels for the nearby showers. I enjoy regular camping but this was pretty great!

Above is an inside look at our heated tent (from our last day after we had packed up) – I found it so cozy and the beds surprisingly comfortable! I slept SO well both nights!

To not attract bears, they don’t allow cooking in the camp area so you have go offsite to make your meals and eat. Since we couldn’t find any fire pits, we used Luke’s cooking set and propane stove. Luke is pretty creative and resourceful when it comes to outdoor cooking and made the yummiest breakfast hash – it was so hearty and filling, perfect for jumpstarting our day.

I was really excited about the day’s Yosemite Falls hike but I also have some health issues that make strenuous activities difficult so I was a bit worried I would hold us back. What was so wonderful was that I ended up surprising both Luke and myself and made it much farther than either of us could’ve guessed. We did have to take several breaks but I was so proud of myself for not giving up – and my perseverance paid off as I got to see some incredible views.

One of my favorite moments from the whole trip was coming around this big rock during our hike and suddenly right in front of us – the most gorgeous waterfall complete with accompanying rainbow reveals itself. It was simply breathtaking. Just like the rest of Yosemite, photos don’t do it justice.

We climbed up some rocks to get away from all the other hikers and found a nice somewhat secluded area to have lunch and enjoy the sight of the waterfall. Definitely a highlight.

Once the sun started going down, we made our way back and found our friends Cori and Michael and decided to take a few “couple” photos of each other on this cliff overlooking this incredible view. Since Luke and I both wore red plaid, our photos ended up looking like the most “epic Brawny ads.” Haha I loved it.

The next day, traffic was a MESS – literally bumper to bumper (I thought we had left LA!). With so many people trying to leave the camp area, we decided to scratch our hiking plans and just walk around and explore the areas nearby which included this big open snowy plain where I had my first legitimate snowball fight and took some pretty awesome photos. I just can’t get over how beautiful the scenery is.

After our fun in the snow, we took an indoor break for lunch and played a game of Settlers of Catan. I had a bit of a rough start but was just making a comeback (I’m Orange) when Luke won and ended the game. Anyone else love Settlers?

Traffic hadn’t let up at all so it was back to exploring! We followed a trail farther into the woods and came across some firepits (at least we now know for our next trip!) and a river that made for more lovely photos. Cori took the beautiful photos below.

Before we knew it, it was growing dark. Luke took some gorgeous night shots with his camera as we made walked back and by the time we reached our car, traffic was gone (yay!) and it was time to drive back home.

Such a wonderful trip. Despite not feeling my best at times, I loved every moment of it and can’t wait to go back. Be sure to check out the awesome video Michael made of our trip!

Have you ever been to Yosemite? Gone “glamping”? Where did you stay? What hike or activity should I do on my next trip?

5 Fandom Friday: Fictional Couples I Ship

This week’s theme: Fictional Couples I Ship

I love shipping! I never set out to do it, but once I fall in love with the idea of two characters together, I ship it and I ship it HARD. The pairings I’m featuring here have all at one point been an OTP (one true pairing) of mine.

    1. Buffy & Xander (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
I will forever ship these two! In a show full of glorious shipping options, B/X was my ultimate OTP. I even had a shipping fan site. I recently rewatched the first season of BtVS and it only reaffirmed why I love these two together! Xander loved Buffy so much, even after she rejected him and broke his heart. Even with no supernatural powers, he always stood by her side, never giving up on her, and protected her the best he could. The bond and devotion they shared with one another made an incredibly strong friendship and it makes me sad they never got a chance to explore something romantic. (Season 8 – why, Joss, WHY?? We were SO close!!)
    2. Cordelia & Angel (Angel)
These two together make me so happy! Yes, their ending is heartbreaking but besides all that, they were just so much fun and really brought out the best in each other. Honestly, after watching Angel on BtVS, I wanted nothing to do with a series about him. His character seemed so mopey and lame and I hated all the Bangel drama. In came Cordy and she made him lighten up and not take things so seriously and he actually became a fleshed out character with his fair share of humorous moments. In return, he made her care about others beside herself. They were more than merely romantic interests, they were more than friends, they were family. The progression and story of their relationship is beautiful and probably my all-time favorite.
    3. Jean & Mikasa (Attack On Titan)
I’m all for unconventional pairings, but I really don’t understand why these two don’t get more love in the fandom seeing as how his attraction and admiration for her is at least definitely canon. Also, I just love all the story possibilities (Attack On Space, why did you not do more with these two??). In my opinion, Jean is definitely the most flawed and interesting character while, as a character, Mikasa is nearly flawless. Something about that dynamic really intrigues me. I would love to see Jean break down her walls and expose her more human side (and him being all nervous and awkward while doing it). If you need convincing of this pairing in the canon Titan world, do yourself a favor and read “A Ring For A Scarf.
    4. Katniss & Peeta (The Hunger Games)
Team Peeta all the way!! After reading the books, all I kept thinking was “When will I meet my Peeta?” I’m obviously a fan of the loyal, nice guy who is totally devoted and unconditionally loves his lady even if it’s perhaps unrequited (see Buffy & Xander).
    5. Zuko & Katara (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
C’mon, fire and water!! They were meant to be!! I mean, I know they couldn’t just leave Aang out in the cold and break his poor little heart, but…but…but…this was SO PERFECT!!!!
    What pairings do you ship?

Outfit Of the Day: Casual Valentine’s Day

    IMG_3984.JPG
For Valentine’s Day, I kept my work outfit casual and comfy. My white, red heart sweatshirt from Wildfox Couture was perfect for the day and is easily the most comfortable top I own. To edge it up a little, I paired it with my BCBGeneration fanx leather pants along with my Vince Camuto boots and Michael Kors rose gold watch. I used thebalm’s Nude’tude palette for my eyes and my recently purchased Revlon lip butter in Red Velvet for my lips. Super simple, but I got a lot of compliments 🙂

What did you wear on Valentine’s Day?

    TAG: 10 Valentine’s Day Questions!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!! I saw this tag on ElleandBlair.Com and thought I would give it a whirl. Feel free to fill it out yourself and post your answers in the comments!

    1. What is your favorite Valentines Day treat? I loveeee Lundt chocolate. Anything caramel or coconut filled is good in my book.

    2. Sweethearts or chocolate covered strawberries?
    Chocolate covered strawberries!

    3. What was your favorite Valentines day memory?
I miss those days in grade school when you got to give Valentine’s Day cards to all your classmates. It was so much fun choosing what themed card pack to get and deciding who would what card and, of course, it was fun seeing all the cards and candy you got at the end of the day.

    4. What movie would you rather watch on Valentine’s Day: Pretty Woman or You’ve Got Mail?
I haven’t seen either one… I’m not that big into romantic comedies =/

    5. What celeb would you not mind having as your Valentine?
I wouldn’t mind Ian Somerhalder or Bradley Cooper…

    6. What would you do on your perfect Valentine’s date?
Some kind of activity like laser tag or paintball followed by food from some hidden word-of-mouth restaurant where we could just talk would be pretty nice, but then again Netflix and a home-cooked dinner sound pretty awesome too.

    7. Red or pink lips on Valentines Day?
Probably pink, but depends on the outfit.

    8. What is your ideal Valentine’s Day date outfit?
Probably a white bustier-like top tucked into a red bandage skirt with a belt around the waist paired with strappy heels and dangling earrings. (I’d go with red lipstick for this outfit.)

    9. Homemade or store-bought gifts?
Either, I’m just grateful to be thought of

    10. Would you wear your hair up or hair down for a date night?
    Hair down 🙂
