    2013 Emmy’s Fashion Review

Hey guys! So as usual, I do not have a TV to watch award shows but I DO have Twitter that gives me every little detail the second it happens so it feels like I’m watching it in real time – except there are so many tweets to go through, I’m actually about an hour or so behind so not really. I still got to experience all the ups and down of watching Claire Danes and Modern Family win their respective categories AGAIN (not that it’s undeserved or anything, I just like to share the love), Merritt Weaver’s hilarious blink and miss it acceptance speech, and overwhelming satisfying feeling of seeing Breaking Bad take home Best Drama (this show is nearly flawless television and in my opinion should win everything).

However, this post is about fashion and that’s what we’re going to talk about. I usually do a Top 10 Best, sometimes Worst, Dressed List, but this year I found myself commenting on the looks as the pictures showed up on my Twitter feed so I thought I would go ahead and just post my thoughts on a handful of these looks – Parts 2 and 3 will follow. Maybe later I’ll round it up for a Top 5 Best and Worst Dressed.

    Anna Faris – Monique Lhuillier
Oh Monique (she’s my dream wedding dress designer), you make the prettiest gowns. Anna reminds me a little of Emma Stone here (not a bad thing), and I do like the bold yellow color on her but I am not feeling the blunt bangs.

    Zooey Deschanel – J. Mendel
Zooey’s hair looks so perfect and bouncy (and does anyone else see Alexis Bledel or am I just imagining celebs as other celebs today?), but she can do better than this dress. It’s boring, the wrong color, and that thing on the side is so random and tacky. Plus the slit on the side which is supposed to give the conservative-looking dress some sexiness, just looks awkward and unflattering from the side.

    Sofia Vergara – Vera Wang
The curve-hugging, plunging neckline, mermaid-flaired silhouette is pretty much Sofia’s staple and something we’ve all seen from her before but she works it SO well so why stop? I do like the added all-over lace detailing and the multi-colored earrings. I usually prefer wavy hair in front of the ears not behind, but I can understand when you’re rocking that kind of bling you want to show it off.

    Anna Gunn – Romona Keveza
YES YES YES!!! This is what I’m talking about!! STUH-NING!!! Who even knew Skyler White  could look this good?! Love love love!! Hair, makeup, gown, accessories – all a big fat WIN in my book!!

    Rose Byrne – Calvin Klein
Woah, someone’s gone blonde! I loved her dark locks, but I’m kinda digging this whole look. It’s so…fresh and soft and girly (although can we please a smile? you’re so much prettier when you smile, Rose). Although this dress totally looks like something out of Gwyneth Paltrow’s closet – except she would’ve gone with stick straight hair instead – I really like it. It’s polished and sleek with just the right amount of sexiness with the cropped top.

    Melissa Rauch – Rubin Singer
Melissa, you are looking so Taylor here with your cute bangs and pretty smile (I swear I’m not doing this on purpose)…except much more miniature and…and I kinda like it. The teal earrings paired with the royal purple are actually really awesome. And while I don’t quite like the mesh on the torso, the color is gorgeous against her lovely pale skin and she just looks so put together and pretty.

    Jessica Pare
What is this?? Okay, okay, I will admit, I love the color, but EVERYTHING else about this gown… Actually, everything else below the shoulders – those shoes?? WHAT THE–??? No. Top too low, sides too wide, too much crinkled wrinkly-looking material, I don’t know what’s going on with the torso, and again why those black shoes??

    Carrie Underwood – Romona Keveza
Carrie!! You are usually at the top of my Best Dressed list!!! Yes, you do look pretty…but you can do SO much better!! It looks like a prom gown or the dress on your Holiday Barbie! Your hair and makeup are flawless and you look good in this color along with every other color of the rainbow but that still does not excuse this decision…but I guess I’ll just let you make it up to me next time.

    Elisabeth Moss – Andrew Gn
Beautiful! So simple, chic, and classy, and I love the bright red lips and super blonde hair – probably the best she’s ever looked. I guess I’m feeling the black and white trend tonight.

    Heidi Klum – Versace
NO. WHY??? #IHateIt It looks like a blood-covered praying mantis/velociraptor is staring at me on your chest/torso and it’s creeping me out. Also, that cannot be comfortable.

What did you think of the Emmys Fashion? Part 2 coming soon!

    2012 MET Gala: Worst Dressed

The MET Gala showcases fashion’s best…and it’s worst. I showed you guys my favorite looks of the night in my previous post. Now, time for my least favorites…there were quite a few, every time I thought I had finished my list, I found a few more haha.

Chloe Sevigny (Mui Mui) & Elizabeth Banks (Mary Katrantzou)
These dresses were a bit too over-the-top and costume-y for me. Chloe resembles a disco ball with a dress that looks like it’s entirely made up of vinyl records, and Elizabeth looks like she borrowed something from her Hunger Games character Effie Trinket’s closet.

Leighton Meester (Marchesa) & Jessica Chastain (Louis Vuitton)
Both of these gowns just aren’t flattering on their wearers. The color of Leighton’s gown makes her look washed out, especially with that fake orange tan. As for Jessica, I’ve never been a fan of tiered gowns and, unfortunately, this one also looks cheap. Should’ve gone for a material that doesn’t look wrinkled in photographs and a bolder color.

Sarah Jessica Parker (Valentino) & Lily Collins (Valentino)
These Valentinos look like someone’s grandmother’s nightgowns (or curtains…) on the red carpet – albeit some really beautiful nightgowns…but nightgowns, nonetheless.

     Christina Ricci – Thakoon
This dress is totally swallowing Christina’s petite body. The bow alone is as big as her body!

Mary-Kate Olsen  (her own label, The Row) & Rosie Huntington-Whitely (Burberry)
Complete with unflattering hair and makeup, Mary-Kate just looks like a hot mess. Rosie, on the other hand, just looks boring.

Kirsten Dunst (Rodarte) & Eva Mendes (Prada)
Color of the year Tangerine was all over the red carpet, but these two looks failed in my book. Kirsten looks like she’s heading to the office, and Eva’s gown not only has large, tacky embellishments on her bustier, it also makes her look boxy.

Kristen Stewart (Balenciaga) & Shailene Woodley (Christopher Kane)
These two young starlets failed to impress. Kristen looked just as awkward as her odd color-blocked dress. Shailene’s busy gown does nothing for her figure.

Lena Dunham (Wes Gordon) & Greta Gerwig (Prabal Gurung)
These ladies were green nightmares in their cheap-looking, ill-fitting and unflattering gowns.

Florence Welch (Alexander McQueen) & Anja Rubik (Anthony Vaccarello )
What were they thinking?? Florence’s dress (by my beloved McQueen) looks like a dust bunny that got mixed with some shredded paper, but, boy, does she rock it. That girl’s got some confidence (Kristen, take note)! Anja, no stranger to my worst dressed list, shows once again she has no problem showing some skin on the red carpet as seen by her cutouts and hip-cleavage baring high slit.

What did you guys think? What were your biggest misses of the night?

    2012 Grammys: Worst Dressed

Now that you’ve seen my favorite Grammy looks, here are some of my not-so-favorites:

    Nicki Minaj – Versace

    Fergie – Jean Paul Gaultier

Cyndi Lauper (Jean Paul Gaultier) & Snookie (Bebe)

     Robyn (Calvin Klein) & Nadeea

Bonnie McKee & Anne V (Anthony Vaccarello)

Skyler Grey (Thomas Wylde) & Sasha Gradiva (Leonid Gurevich)

Don’t worry, regular/non-Worst/Best Dressed List posts will resume once I get one more of these out of my system.

Shocking!  Well, I wanted to make sure I squeezed in this last red carpet event before I leave tomorrow for a 5 week backpacking trip with two friends in Europe. Don’t expect any posts for at least a month since I won’t be taking my laptop with me. No worries though, I’m sure I’ll have tons to write about once I get back! Just don’t forget about me! Now, off to continue packing!

    2011 SAG Awards: Worst Dressed

For this awards show, I decided to post the Worst Dressed list first. Figured I’d get the bad/blah out of the way first. As always, comment and let me know if you agree or disagree!
    #10 – Jenna Fischer – Fendi
I like her makeup, but the dress is simply too boring and shapeless (a common problem of the night).
    #9 – Edie Falco – Carolina Herrera
Once again, I like the makeup and there’s nothing particular wrong with the dress, it just suffers from being a bit blah and underwhelming.
    #8 – Angie Harmon – Monique Lhuillier
I actually love this pink color with her skintone but the whole thing is just a little too much, too young, and too feathery. Plus, it brings to mind images of Bjork and that’s never a good thing.
#7 – Helena Bonham Carter – Marc Jacobs
A HUGE improvement over the Golden Globes! And she’s actually wearing matching shoes! Her intentionally bizarre style, however, still lands her on my worst dressed list.
    #6 – Mariska Hargitay
She looks great from the neck up, but this purple gown is too simple, too shapeless, and too…blah.
    #5 – Melissa Leo
This dress makes her look like a shiny robot… or an alien. The cut is not flattering to her figure at all and makes her appear boxy.
#4 – Kate Mara – Herve Leger by Max Azria
Here is a gown that seriously did not translate well off the runway. I love Herve Leger but this dress is almost hard to look at. Just no.
    #3 – Christina Hendricks – L’Wren Scott
She looks like a vampire who just got out of bed and slipped on their bathrobe. The dress does nothing to flatter her curves and the makeup is way too severe.
    #2 – Jane Lynch – Ali Rahimi
What is Jane doing in this horrible prom dress? The color looks great on her, but other than that, it looks cheap, odd, and in need of an ironing.
#1 – Paz de la Huerta
Hands-down, worst look of the evening. I can’t find anything redeeming about this outfit.

    Golden Globes, Worst Dressed

    Golden Globes: Worst Dressed List

So you all know who I think got it right at the Globes. Now, here’s who I think needs to hire a new stylist (in no particular order because they’re all tragic).

Christina Hendricks: That giant ruffle is SO distracting and unflattering.
Michelle Williams: Granny prints are not Globes-appropriate.

Helena Bonham Carter: This look is the epitome of “Hot Mess.”
Lea Michelle: Reminds me of Pepto Bismol. Not a fan of her messy hair either.

Halle Berry: This dress screams cougar.
Julianne Moore: Someone get this woman an iron STAT!

Jennifer Love Hewitt: What is up with that neckline??
Kaley Cuoco: The odd tiering of the lower half of the dress is just wrong.
Agree/Disagree?? Did I leave someone out? Comment and give me your thoughts!
