    2013 Emmy’s Fashion Review

Hey guys! So as usual, I do not have a TV to watch award shows but I DO have Twitter that gives me every little detail the second it happens so it feels like I’m watching it in real time – except there are so many tweets to go through, I’m actually about an hour or so behind so not really. I still got to experience all the ups and down of watching Claire Danes and Modern Family win their respective categories AGAIN (not that it’s undeserved or anything, I just like to share the love), Merritt Weaver’s hilarious blink and miss it acceptance speech, and overwhelming satisfying feeling of seeing Breaking Bad take home Best Drama (this show is nearly flawless television and in my opinion should win everything).

However, this post is about fashion and that’s what we’re going to talk about. I usually do a Top 10 Best, sometimes Worst, Dressed List, but this year I found myself commenting on the looks as the pictures showed up on my Twitter feed so I thought I would go ahead and just post my thoughts on a handful of these looks – Parts 2 and 3 will follow. Maybe later I’ll round it up for a Top 5 Best and Worst Dressed.

    Anna Faris – Monique Lhuillier
Oh Monique (she’s my dream wedding dress designer), you make the prettiest gowns. Anna reminds me a little of Emma Stone here (not a bad thing), and I do like the bold yellow color on her but I am not feeling the blunt bangs.

    Zooey Deschanel – J. Mendel
Zooey’s hair looks so perfect and bouncy (and does anyone else see Alexis Bledel or am I just imagining celebs as other celebs today?), but she can do better than this dress. It’s boring, the wrong color, and that thing on the side is so random and tacky. Plus the slit on the side which is supposed to give the conservative-looking dress some sexiness, just looks awkward and unflattering from the side.

    Sofia Vergara – Vera Wang
The curve-hugging, plunging neckline, mermaid-flaired silhouette is pretty much Sofia’s staple and something we’ve all seen from her before but she works it SO well so why stop? I do like the added all-over lace detailing and the multi-colored earrings. I usually prefer wavy hair in front of the ears not behind, but I can understand when you’re rocking that kind of bling you want to show it off.

    Anna Gunn – Romona Keveza
YES YES YES!!! This is what I’m talking about!! STUH-NING!!! Who even knew Skyler White  could look this good?! Love love love!! Hair, makeup, gown, accessories – all a big fat WIN in my book!!

    Rose Byrne – Calvin Klein
Woah, someone’s gone blonde! I loved her dark locks, but I’m kinda digging this whole look. It’s so…fresh and soft and girly (although can we please a smile? you’re so much prettier when you smile, Rose). Although this dress totally looks like something out of Gwyneth Paltrow’s closet – except she would’ve gone with stick straight hair instead – I really like it. It’s polished and sleek with just the right amount of sexiness with the cropped top.

    Melissa Rauch – Rubin Singer
Melissa, you are looking so Taylor here with your cute bangs and pretty smile (I swear I’m not doing this on purpose)…except much more miniature and…and I kinda like it. The teal earrings paired with the royal purple are actually really awesome. And while I don’t quite like the mesh on the torso, the color is gorgeous against her lovely pale skin and she just looks so put together and pretty.

    Jessica Pare
What is this?? Okay, okay, I will admit, I love the color, but EVERYTHING else about this gown… Actually, everything else below the shoulders – those shoes?? WHAT THE–??? No. Top too low, sides too wide, too much crinkled wrinkly-looking material, I don’t know what’s going on with the torso, and again why those black shoes??

    Carrie Underwood – Romona Keveza
Carrie!! You are usually at the top of my Best Dressed list!!! Yes, you do look pretty…but you can do SO much better!! It looks like a prom gown or the dress on your Holiday Barbie! Your hair and makeup are flawless and you look good in this color along with every other color of the rainbow but that still does not excuse this decision…but I guess I’ll just let you make it up to me next time.

    Elisabeth Moss – Andrew Gn
Beautiful! So simple, chic, and classy, and I love the bright red lips and super blonde hair – probably the best she’s ever looked. I guess I’m feeling the black and white trend tonight.

    Heidi Klum – Versace
NO. WHY??? #IHateIt It looks like a blood-covered praying mantis/velociraptor is staring at me on your chest/torso and it’s creeping me out. Also, that cannot be comfortable.

    2012 Emmys: Best Dressed

Hey guys, long time no see! Sorry this is becoming a pattern but believe me when I say I am dealing with some intense personal issues right now that definitely merit the time off from blogging. However, I’m making a quick return because the Emmys were Sunday night (like I need another distraction from doing my homework) and, thus, I had to, of course, do my obligatory Best Dressed list because, as a huge TV fan, the Emmys is an awards show I somewhat care what the results are – and, yes, I realize there are wayyy too many commas in that last sentence haha.

I wasn’t as in love with this year’s red carpet fashion as I was last year’s (of course, last year had Nina Dobrev who just makes any red carpet that much better), but there still plenty of standout looks. Color was definitely a big trend of the night. My favorite being blues and teals. Orange and yellow were also popular colors, but as you can tell from the absence save one on my list, it wasn’t a huge hit to me.

Sidenote: Congrats to Homeland and Modern Family on all the wins, but if it were up to me, Breaking Bad (a big ol’ freaking congrats to Aaron Paul for Best Supporting, Drama, btw) and Community (still can’t believe it wasn’t even nominated) would have swept the drama and comedy categories, respectively. But anyway…on to the fashion!

    #1 – Heidi Klum – Alexandre Vauthier

    #2 – Tina Fey – Vivienne Westwood

    #3 – Sarah Hyland – Marchesa

    #4 – Zooey Deschanel – Reem Akra

    #5 – Kristen Wiig – Balenciaga

    #6 – Jessica Pare – Jason Wu

    #7 – Giuliana Rancic – Rafael Cennamo

#8 -Sofia Vergara – Zuhair Muhrad

    #9 – Padma Lakshmi – Monique Lhullier

    #10 – Hayden Panettiere – Marchesa

    2011 Emmy Awards: Best Dressed

The Primetime Emmy Awards is one of my favorite award shows. Not because the show itself is anything special – it was actually a bit of a snoozefest this year – but because I probably know and, thus, root for the nominees more than I do for, say, the Oscars or Grammys. Plus, I love seeing all my favorite TV stars all glammed up on the red carpet. While I’ve been pretty underwhelmed with a lot of this year’s red carpet fashion, I was happily surprised with the Emmys. The actors really stepped up their game. The color of the night was definitely red, and sparkles (via sequins and beading) were a big trend. On to my favorite looks:

    #1 – Nina Dobrev – Donna Karan
Nina Dobrev tops my best dressed list yet again! She looked drop dead gorgeous in a strapless red mermaid gown by Donna Karan. I love that the gown is all at once simple yet complex. I can’t stop looking at the hem – is it ruffles? layers? pleats? – it’s just so unique. Her hair, makeup, and accessories are also flawless, as usual. With such a showstopping gown, she was smart and kept accessories at a mininum with an impressive Neil Lane necklace and a Judith Leiber clutch. Perfect waves and smokey eyes complete this Emmy-worthy look.

     #2 – Julia Stiles – Georges Hobeika
Julia Stiles has been making some great fashion choices and the Emmys was no different. I adored her lavender lace George Hobeika gown. The pretty color perfectly complements her fair skin tone. I also love the juxtaposition of the edgy black nails and metallic Kotur clutch with the soft and very feminine gown and loose waves. Her makeup is spot-on with dark smokey eyes and light pink lips.

#3 – Jennifer Carpenter – Tony Ward Couture
Glitzy beading was a big trend at the Emmys and no one did it better than Jennifer Carpenter who stunned in a blush beaded gown by Tony Ward Couture accompanied by Martin Katz jewelry. With a thigh high slit and plunging neckline, it was definitely one of the most provocative gowns on the red carpet, but she manages to pull it off and still look classy. I also love her loose, ombre’ waves and makeup.

    #4 – Sofia Vergara – Vera Wang
The beautiful Sofia Vergara showed off her curves in a coral one-shouldered gown by Vera Wang. The color is very flattering, and I like the ruching of the chiffon. She said the most exciting part of her outfit were her “Columbia emeralds” and I have to agree – they’re fabulous! Her hair was done is long waves and her makeup consisted of dramatic eyes and bright red lips.

    #5 – Cat Deeley – Monique Lhuillier
You can tell Cat loves to have fun with fashion, whether on her show or at a fashion event. At the Emmys, she wore a beautiful gold-flecked beaded and tulle strapless gown by Monique Lhulier. I love how the beading starts dense at the top and spreads out as it goes down, creating a somewhat ombre’ effect. She completes her look with beachy waves, fresh makeup, and Bulgari diamonds.

#6 – Claire Danes – Oscar de la Renta
Claire Danes wore a blue and black sequinned Oscar de la Renta column gown. I love the colors and patterns and how it pops against her skin and blonde hair. Speaking of which, her hair looks amazing, but I think her makeup is a little too much. The dark eyes and red lips together is a bit harsh for her and makes her look older. This is the only negative in an otherwise great look.

     #7 – Kerry Washington – Zuhair Murad
Kerry Washington looked fierce and glamourous in a strapless Zuhair Murad gown with matching scarlet Jimmy Choo shoes and clutch. I love the shape of the neckline, the beaded bodice, and the shirred bottom. Her hair is retro chic and her makeup is sheer perfection with big lashes and bold red lips –  and can I just point out how flawless her complexion is?

     #8 – Elisabeth Moss – Marchesa
Elisabeth Moss looked lovely in a fabulous gold and nude Marchesa gown. I especially love how the embroidery gives the illusion of sleeves and the pattern as it goes down the gown is beautiful. I’m a fan of her fresh and light makeup, but not so much her matronly hair.

#9 – Evan Rachel Wood – Elie Saab
Evan Rachel Wood channeled Old Hollywood with a black bead-encrusted Elie Saab gown, Fred Leighton jewels, and a Judith Leiber bag. I’m not a huge fan of cap sleeves, but I like the exposed back. Her glowing porcelain skin, retro hair, and red lips finished off the look.

#10 – Julie Bowen – Oscar de la Renta
Emmy winner Julie Bowen shined in a silver embellished column gown by Oscar de la Renta. It showed off her perfectly toned body and she quite literally looks like she’s glowing. Her silver smokey makeup and sleek ponytail are the perfect touches to the outfit.
Honorable Mentions – Aubrey Plaza & Jane Lynch
Along with my Top 10 choices, I wanted to include Aubrey Plaza and Jane Lynch. Aubrey Plaza looks divine in an all white Juan Carlos Obando gown. The halter neckline shows off her great shoulders, and her hair and makeup add a touch of sultriness to this sweet ensemble. Jane looked better than ever in a deep purple David Meister gown that was simple, elegant and oh so flattering. Her hair and makeup are stellar and the Lorraine Schwartz jewels are just the right accessories to finish the look. Bravo, ladies!
