    Her Universe Fashion Show

For the last three years, Hot Topic and Her Universe have put on an amazing “geek couture” fashion show featuring designs from some incredibly talented aspiring designers. Every year, I want to so badly attend the show and every year something comes up that night preventing me. This year, I FINALLY was able to make it!! Read on to see experience attending the Hot Topic and Her Universe Fashion Show at San Diego Comic Con 2016!

Local: NYU ACE 30 NOVA Fashion & Benefit Gala

Last weekend, my roommate invited me to attend NYU’s ACE 30 NOVA Fashion & Benefit Gala. She’s a designer who was participating in the show so of course I came out to show my support. I didn’t really know what to expect but ended up having a great time.

ACE stands for Asian Cultural Expression which I had no idea until I arrived at the venue and noticed the ethnic majority. It reminded me of being back at FSU where I participated in a lot of the on campus Asian cultural activities (I was in an Asian sorority after all). Unlike many of our events though, you did have to pay to attend this one but the money went to a worthy cause called Musicians On Call, a non-profit organization bringing live and recorded music to the bedsides of hospital patients. There were also great raffles and prizes although I, unfortunately, did not win anything. Boo.

The fashion show featured designs from fashion houses, boutiques and up and coming designers such as Brooks Brothers, Purdy Gurl, Shoptiques, AUH20 and of course my roomie, Janice Hijin Lee (I’m going to put her portion of the show in another post because she’s that amazing). In between the different runway sets, there were also performances from musician Phil Good and dancer Neil “Dradle” Schwartz. Both were incredible to watch.

Here are a couple photos I took along with Part One of a recording of the entire show I found on YouTube. Enjoy!

    Happy Saturday!

LOCAL: Fashion’s Fight Against Cancer Fashion Show

Last Friday was Tallahassee’s Third Annual Fashion’s Fight Against Cancer, an event that focuses on bringing breast cancer awareness to the city through fashion and entertainment. For a $30 ticket (a portion of which went to the American Cancer Society), guests were treated to a runway show of over 90 designs from BCBG, Banana Republic, White House Black Market, Blu Heaven Boutique, FSU Alumni, Buckle, and designer L. Allen. Food and drinks were also provided by Chili’s as well as entertainment by local musicians and the FSU Dance Department.
As some of you guys know, I work at BCBG (and have done previous fashion shows) and even though I had other plans that night, I couldn’t say no to my wonderful boss who needed help with the event. Also, I had recruited one of my gorgeous sorority sisters, Jackie (below in the teal jumper), and I wanted to be there to support her as it was her first time modeling in a runway show.
The show started a lot later than we expected (9pm instead of 7) and our poor models – many who had been there since 4pm didn’t walk until 9:30. Luckily, they kept everyone fed and the show, otherwise, ran without any glitches. Luckily, we had enough backstage help that during the actual BCBG portion of the show, I was able to take pictures of the models on the runway. Below are just a few of the pictures I took from the night. All outfits and accessories are, of course, BCBGMAXAZRIA. Makeup by M.A.C.
Dancer twins Gwen and Emily looked so ethereal – LOVE their fair skin!
Jackie and Gloria looked killer in their trendy jumpsuits.
Esteffania and Alex (a BCBG customer I also recruited that same day) showed us how to do striped blazers right.
Khadija (what gorgeous hair!) and Chanel (someone give this girl a modeling contract STAT!) seemed like they were born to model.
Jackie provided a strong opening for the show, while Nathalie rocked this awesome sequin/leopard print combo
Ashley, who seemed like she’d been doing this for years, looked super fierce in both her looks.
Khadija and Emily working the runway in their second looks.
Jackie and Gloria striking poses with their matching envelope clutches like pros.
Punam and I wearing matching power skirts.
What was your favorite BCBG runway look?

    Outfits for Ovaries

Ahh, I can’t believe I haven’t posted anything in a month! Life has just been so crazy with school coming to a close and my spontaneous decision to go backpacking in Europe for the summer!! Nevertheless, I wanted to share these photos from the Outfits for Ovaries fashion show hosted by CMA, Fashion Inc, and the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of North Florida. The clothes were provided by local Tallahassee boutiques Cole Couture, Spriggs Luxe, Way Out West, and Olde Fields. The hair was done by the talented crew at Haute Headz. I highly recommend checking out all these places!

As one of CMA’s Student Liaisons (the other being the fabulous Robin Holmes), I got to help out with a lot of the planning for the fashion show, working directly with the models and pullings. It also meant I couldn’t model in the show like I have done previously. Instead, I recruited several members from my beautiful APhiO family to model for me in the show along with my boyfriend. It was really great getting to dress and work with my gorgeous littles and siblings and everyone seemed to really enjoy the whole experience.
