11. Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor (DC)

Is anyone else still obsessed with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman? While you’re waiting for the sequel to come out next year, make this couple your Halloween costume this year. Once you’ve got the Wonder Woman suit, just accessorize with tiara, lasso of truth, shield, and of course, the god killer sword. For Steve, you’ll need a khaki turtleneck, brown leather vest, khaki pants, and a fur-collared jacket to go over it all.

12. Buttercup and Westley (The Princess Bride)

Yes, that’s Adam Scott and Amy Poehler’s Ben and Leslie from Parks and Recreation dressed as Buttercup and Westley. For Buttercup: you’ll need a long-sleeved orange/red dress with gold sash and an extra long, blonde wig. For Westley’s man in black, you’ll need a lace-up pirate shirt, pants, boots, headwrap, and mask — all in black, of course. Carry these accessories as you wish… Westley’s sword and even a stuffed “rodent of unusual size.”

13. Buffy Summers and Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

With a Buffy reboot on the way, I’m getting nostalgic for this cult classic show and my favorite vampire/vampire slayer ship (Sorry, Bangel fans). One of Buffy’s most iconic looks is a simple black tank top and red leather pants. Pair this with a silver cross necklace and Mr. Pointy the trusty stake, and you’re ready to slay, girl. (Too on the nose?) For Spike, wear a black t-shirt, black jeans, an open red button-down shirt, and throw on Spike’s signature black leather duster over it all. To get Blondie Bear’s hair without the bleach, try using a platinum blonde color spray.

14. Marty McFly and Jennifer Parker (Back to the Future)

This is my boyfriend’s favorite movie, so of course I had to include it on this list! To get Jennifer’s look, wear a white button-down shirt, blue vest, floral pants, and don’t forget that big 80s hair. Prepare for lots of layering with Marty! You’ll need a red t-shirt, white checkered button-down, denim jacket, and red/orange puffer vest. Hold your jeans up with some suspenders, and if you’re really dedicated, find a pair of white and red swoosh Nikes. Finally, throw on a watch and aviator sunglasses to recreate Marty’s iconic movie poster pose.

15. Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask (Sailor Moon)

I haven’t forgotten you, anime fans! You can choose to go classic Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask or class it up with their prince and princess looks. I’m personally in love with that flowy Princess Serenity gown. If you don’t want to dish out the money for a completed costume, get a white strapless dress and create the gold circle details yourself. Whichever outfit you choose, you’ll want a wig for Usagi’s meatball/bun-styled hair. If you happen to have a tuxedo already, you can easily replicate Mamoru’s alter ego by adding a black and red-lined cape. Prepare to accessorize like crazy with a white mask, top hat, white gloves, long black cane, and a single red rose.

16. Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane (DC)

If you have some business casual attire, this couples costume should be no problem! You can copy Amy Adams’s Lois Lane with a white button-down, black vest, and pencil skirt. To look extra legit, carry a Daily Planet press badge. For Clark, wear a Superman t-shirt under a white button-down and tie. Don’t forget the glasses that make you instantly indistinguishable as your alter ego Superman! If you don’t feel like hiding behind the guise of Clark Kent and happen to look good in tights, wear a full on Superman suit to accompany your lady.

17. Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler (The Big Bang Theory)

With The Big Bang Theory’s final season airing this year, why not pay tribute to this fellow geeky couple? Take your pick from Sheldon’s various superhero and geeky t-shirts. Most iconic are his Flash and Green Lantern shirts. Wear a long-sleeved shirt underneath with khaki pants. Or consider dressing in Sheldon’s Doppler effect costume. For Amy, wear a button-down shirt under a vest or cardigan (look for stripes and lots of colors) and khaki skirt with tights. To complete the look, clip one side of your hair away from your face with a barrette and throw on a pair of glasses. Now who’s up for a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock?

18. The Doctor and Companion/Tardis (Doctor Who)

If you’re a Whovian, you and your S.O. can dress as your favorite Doctor/Companion duo or even the Doctor/Tardis. I double heart David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler, shown above in their looks from the episode “The Idiot’s Lantern.” You can also try Ninth and Rose, Tenth and Donna, Eleventh and Amy, Twelfth and Clara, or Jodie Whittaker’s new Thirteenth Doctor! If you can’t choose a companion, go as the Tardis by wearing a police box dress and blue wig. And don’t forget your Doctor-appropriate sonic screwdriver

19. Hogwarts Students (Harry Potter)

Choose your favorite characters or just choose your favorite house (Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff) and go as any Hogwarts students! As long as you’ve got a white-button down, the outfit combinations are endless. Tie/scarf. Vest/cardigan. Skirt/pants. Robe/no robe. You can accessorize with a wand, golden snitch, stuffed snowy owl, broomstick, etc. Remember to ask the Muggles nicely to give you candy and don’t just Imperius Curse them.

20. Starfleet Officers (Star Trek)

Once again, choose your favorite characters or choose your specialty — Command (Gold), Science (Blue), Engineering (Red) — and go as any Starfleet Officers! I’m particular to Star Trek the original series and these classic looks, but feel free to wear the uniforms from your own favorite Trek series. You can also wear Vulcan ears or a futuristic wig and accessorize with a phaser, communicator, tricorder, or even a furry little tribble. Now you’re ready to boldly go where no man (or woman) has gone before!

XOXO, Melissa
