October Goals & September Recap

October Monthly Goals

I’m not going to lie, September was a rough month. Fortunately, not due to health reasons. My health was actually doing quite well, strangely enough, despite all the emotional turmoil and distress I was under. Yes, once again, personal circumstances interfered with my blogging. I somehow did even worse this month in reaching my goals even though I cut them down from 10 to only 5 to help me focus. Yes, I’m disappointed, but I also know I did my best for what was going on in my life. As much as I love this blog, real life priorities come first. Luckily, things all worked out and I’m doing fine now.
Anyway…it’s October now and officially fall! My favorite month and favorite season – how can I not be excited!? I already had my birthday that happened on the 2nd which was AMAZING (post coming next week) and have already posted twice (this makes three times) within the first week so this month is off to a great start! I’m hoping the good times, (relatively) good health, and good blogging continues all season long!
I’m sticking with just 5 goals this month. We’ll see how I do and then maybe I’ll bring it back to 10 after that. I feel very optimistic that all these goals are attainable and hoping to see every one crossed off come the beginning of next month! Before I jump into these new goals, however, let’s go over September…it’s not going to be pretty.

September Goals Recap

Personal Goals

1. Start working on my business – I’ve thought a lot about it, but still haven’t written anything down or decided on anything concrete. I pretty much made no progress here at all. Definite fail.
2. Read a book – Another definite fail. Besides my Bible readings and devotionals, I didn’t turn a page last month 🙁
3. Exercise – Not a total fail, but I definitely didn’t accomplish what I was hoping for. I got some light walks in here and there, but I really need to kick it up a notch. Hopefully joining a gym will help give me more accountability since I’ll be paying for it.

Blog Goals

1. Catch up on my blogging – I made this goal because my lack of posts in August due to health and personal reasons made me fall very behind on all the posts I had planned. I hoped that I would be able to double up on posts in September and catch up, but I actually ended up posting even fewer posts than I did in August. I won’t add this again as a goal this month, but I definitely plan on doing my best to “catch up.”
2. Create a media kit – …. This has been on my monthly goals since I started posted monthly goals months ago. I did try this month. I found a free template, started working on it, then my computer crashed…and I just never got back to it. Not putting it on this month’s goals but still hoping to get it done. I am not thrilled with the template I have. If anyone has any recommendations for free media kit templates, please comment and direct me to them – I’d be so very grateful – thanks!

October Goals

Personal Goals

1. Write thank you cards – I was blessed with some wonderful gifts for my birthday. Card writing is not something that comes naturally to me, but it’s something I definitely want to do more of.
2. Sign up for gym membership – Planet Fitness, here I come! As stated above, I need to kick my butt into shape. I can do all the walks and sits up I want around and in my apartment, but I really need to build my strength as well and for that I need to use some machines.

Blog Goals

1. Start scheduling my social media posts – I know this is something pretty much every blogger does for their Twitter and Facebook posts, and while I know how to do it, I don’t. I like to do all my posts in real time. It’s totally not practical though so I need to change that. I’ve used Hootsuite before and liked it fine, and I’ve looked into Buffer – which one do you guys prefer?
2. Reorganize my Pinterest – I’ve already started doing this a bit so I feel pretty good about crossing this off my list next month. I know how valuable Pinterest can be to driving traffic to your site and I haven’t utilized it very much. As I stated in a previous goals post, I think I’m going to sign up for either Tailwind or Board Booster to help me schedule posts every day. I can’t decided which to go with though. I’ve heard a lot of pros and cons about both. Once again, I’d love to hear which one you all prefer in the comments.
3. Reach 2,000 followers on Instagram – I finally reached 1,700 followers on Instagram this last week! Just a few months ago I was a total Instagram newb that maybe posted 2-3 times a month. While I’m still no expert and will never be someone who can post multiple times a day, I am posting at least twice a week (I know that’s still really low, but I’m working on doing it at least every other day now) with relevant hashtags and thanks to the wonderful discovery of comment pods, my engagement is way up. Since it took me so long to cross the 1,700 mark, I know adding 300 more followers in one month might seem like a lofty goal, but I think it can be realistic. I’m really committing to posting almost daily and keeping engagement up, and I think those two things will help me in reaching this goal.

Its so awesome to write down goals, it kind of makes me more accountable. We def have similar goals, as so need to build a media kit. take care

    • Thank you, Mayra! Good luck on your media kit! <3

  • September was a low one for me too. On my goals post, I broke it down into categories like you did too. 🙂 Mainly, automate as much as possible, grow my social media (for the big goal by the end of the year), and write more [quality] content than I have in months’ past.

    • Those are some great goals, Courtney! I’m sure we’ll both bounce back this month! Thanks for sharing and good luck! : )

  • Love the idea of a goals post! It might help me stay accountable.

  • Ruthie Ridley

I loved reading this post today! I am glad you are feeling better! Writing goals down are so helpful. You inspired me to do so! This will be a good month I believe!! Happy birthday month to you!!! Congrats on your instagram reach, you will reach 2,000 in no time!!! XO

  • Holly

Good for you girl on reaching 1,700 Instagram followers! Keep your head up and 2,000 will come soon 🙂 xx

Hope you’re feeling better now. October is a month I get so excited for to, and always make me more motivated for some reason. Great goals you’ve set yourself!

    • I’m feeling much better than before, thank you, Megan : ) I’ve noticed October is a lot of people’s favorite month – I love how many people love it and get so excited for it and fall! <3

  • Cynthia @craftoflaughter

We can do this! Posting our goals, including our failures, keeps us accountable

  • You totally just motivated me to get my butt organized. I definitely need to work on scheduling posts and a media kit ASAP !

    • Yay!! So glad I could provide you with some motivation!! Get it, girl! Good luck! <3

  • It is so funny! I have been wanting to update my media kit since a few weeks, and always find myself delaying it! Also, I tried scheduling my social posts… but can’t… I prefer doing it in the moment!

  • I never schedule my posts either. Heck I barely have time to write them. I usually sit down on saturday morning and post it once it’s done. Then I have to go back a million times to fix the typos I discover. If I ever have the time, I would love to go back through all my pinterest posts and make them even nicer.

  • Writing goals is half the battle of reaching them! Good for you! I have some of the same goals!

    • Thank you, Terri!! Good luck on your own goals!! <3

  • PamIW

I need to reorganize my pinterest also. I have heard a lot of wonderful things about tailwind but have not really looking into it. I need to have some goals each month to and stick to them.

  • Allison Ellzey

Scheduling social media posts is literally a game changer! You’ll be so happy to accomplish that goal!

  • I really need to schedule social media posts…but I never seem to. I think it would definitely help me though – too much stress!

  • My past couple months have been super challenging as well so my poor blog has really taken a back burner. But scheduling blog posts helps SO much. I take advantage of my days where I have nothing going on and literally spend it writing and scheduling out my posts. I especially do this when I know I have a lot coming up in my schedule. Sometimes I’ll write and keep them in my pending folder for the days I get too busy to post. There are lots of ways to keep your blog consistent when life gets in the way!

Also, I have Planet Fitness and LOVE it. I had looked into other gyms in my area and this one was at the top of my life (mainly because my husband’s military and it was the only one with locations all over the country haha). I just made a cross-country move last month though so I have yet to find my nearest location here in San Diego, but I definitely plan to do that this month so I can get back to my work outs.

    Good luck this month!! 🙂

I think it’s awesome that you’re back and with a new set of goals for the month as well! I hope everything goes smoothly from now on! And don’t forget to have fun too.

  • Tabitha Shakespeare

These are great goals! I think its really important to write your goals down so you can go back and check your progress. Keep up the good work!

  • Veronica Pototska

    About starting you business.
Don’t ever ever again say the word “fail” about any actions associated with your business, please.
You will do it, when the time comes. Or maybe you have a fear of changes that will come when you start it? But changes happen everyday.
You can do it, I believe in you!

  • Angela Campos

These all sound like great goals! i like how you broke them down into categories. I need to give this a try!

    • Thank you, Angela!! I hope you will – definitely helps keep you accountable!

  • Good luck with your goals! Instagram is all about consistency! when I was first getting into it I gave myself a photo-a-day challenge and to post once a day with pre-planned themes and it started to become SO much easier! currently doing an instagram story challenge to step up my game there!

  • I need to schedule social media things too, I’m in real time and have also had the same board booster vs. tailwind debate…what to do, what to do…

  • Fiona Simmonds

Refreshingly honest with your report on September’s goals! At last a post that doesn’t make me feel like an inadequate human being! Thank you 🙂

  • Love your honesty and transparency. We all face challenging times and it’s good to know that mercies are new every morning and we can get up and go again. If your doing your best that’s all you can do. Sometimes we are too hard on ourselves and expect too much. You are doing awesome and will win as long as you don’t give up! Hang in there, we all need each other!

  • Nicole Parise

I’m curious what a comment pod is, I have been trying to get my engagement up on Instagram but it is slow going! Nice little round up of the month, I too need to get reading and organizing!
    xx nicole

  • Suzanne Spiegoski-Decamps

Keep plugging away and keep doing you! No one is you and that is your power!

  • I’m so sorry you had a rough September!! I hope you have an amazing October and the rest of your 2016!! Good luck girl, you’ve got this!!

  • Marvina Musser

Good luck with your goals. I think my goals for this month is to get back into blogging regularly while still finding time to sleep and spend time with family before I actually have to head off to work each day. I love blogging and because I got a new job, it has taken a back stage, but I’m hoping I can post atleast once a week in this month. Also I want to read more and write more this month. Great goals. 🙂

Great list of goals!!! Updating my media kit is on my list of things to do as well.
